CENSUS RECORDS

Federal censuses for the state of Arizona began in 1870. They continued every ten years, and are available through 1920, with the exceptions of 1890. All but the 1910 are indexed.

State censuses offer enumerations in 1882 for the counties of Cochise, Gila, Graham, Maricopa, Mohave, Pima, Yavapai, and Yuma. Voter registers help substitute for various other time periods for many counties. Territorial periods also provided censuses in 1864 and 1866 for Arizona. This area was enumerated as Arizona County in New Mexico's 1860 territorial census.
