Georgia State Census Records

The 1820 census is the earliest federal enumeration to survive for the state of Georgia, and is not complete. Missing are Franklin, Rabun and Twiggs counties, while others are at times unreliable or unreadable. The remaining censuses are mostly complete, and are available for each decennial year through 1920, except for 1890. All are indexed in one format or another. The mostly destroyed 1890 census exists for only....

Various state censuses exist on a fragmented basis for many counties in Georgia. Tax lists and other sources are often necessary to serve as substitutes for early censuses, and in between federal censuses. A 1790 census has been created from tax lists for much of the state.
